Hayley & Me + Quizabella RosselLini

  • Aviva Studios - The Social Aviva Studios/Factory International Water St, Manchester M3 4JQ United Kingdom (map)

Kate O’Donnell presents a one-woman show based on Coronation Street icon Hayley Cropper – followed by a camp pop culture quiz.

SCENE is proud to present the one-woman show Hayley and Me. Written and performed by award-winning transgender performer, activist, theatre and cabaret maker Kate O’Donnell, Hayley and Me explores the themes of visibility, expectations, LGBT progress, escapism and a lack of visible role models or a ‘rule book’ for transgender people.

Coronation Street’s Hayley Cropper appeared in our living rooms three times a week. Though well loved, she was slightly overlooked. Bringing Hayley back into the limelight, this cabaret takes a nostalgic look at the impact of this classic character, her place in trans history and the relationship between her Coronation Street storylines and Kate’s own journey. Expect visuals, a little audience interaction, a lot of Spice Girls and a very iconic anorak.

We will be joined by special guest Julie Hesmondhalgh (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), who played Hayley for 16 years.

After the performance, Manchester’s queer film club Make A Scene present a panel show camp film quiz where two teams battle to see who has the best camp and underground film knowledge.

Test your soap opera knowledge from Coronation Street via Dynasty to Eastenders and back.
